Stacey Kent Information
Stacey Kent (March 27, 1965) is an American jazz singer. She was born in South Orange, New Jersey. After graduating from Sarah Lawrence College, she attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, England. There, she met Jim Tomlinson, a saxophonist, whom she later married on August 9, 1991. She started as a professional singer at London's Café Bohème in the 1990s.
After almost three years, she started supporting prominent performers at London's Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club. She sang "Come Live with Me and Be My Love" (written by Trevor Jones) during the Grand Ball honoring the Yorkist victory in the Wars of the Roses in the 1995 film Richard III (starring Ian McKellen). In 1997, she released her debut studio album, Close Your Eyes. (Possibly a collection of demos, Stacey Kent Sings, a cassette released in July 1995, features 11 tracks.)
In September 2006, Kent's album The Boy Next Door was certified Gold in France. In November 2007, Breakfast on the Morning Tram (2007) was certified Platinum in France, and in February 2008, it was certified Double Gold in Germany. The French album Raconte-Moi was certified Gold in France and Germany and was the world's number two best-selling French album in 2010.
