The Spring Awakening Music Festival (SAMF) is a Chicago-based electronic dance music (EDM) festival that takes place every year. In 2008, the event began in a theater, then moved to Soldier Field from 2012 to 2015, and then to Addams/Medill Park from 2016 to 2018. Located in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, the Sears Centre was the previous home of the Poplar Creek Music Theater in 2019.
Originally, Spring Awakening was a concert series. The event ultimately outgrew the theater, and in 2012, Chicago-based promoter React Presents transformed SAMF into a two-day outdoor music festival at Soldier Field. The Spring Awakening Music Festival was expanded to three days in 2013 and drew over 90,000 attendees. In the past, SAMF has been held on the second or third weekend of June.
Due to the vast fan base of electronic dance music in the Chicago area, the festival has grown in popularity. People travel from all over the country to attend the festival, and there are suggestions that the celebration may expand to other states. React Presents is a Chicago-based club, festival, and concert festival promotion firm founded in 2008. Spring Awakening Music Festival, North Coast Music Festival, Forever Festival, and Summer Set Music & Camping Festival are the four festivals produced by React Presents.
