Sponge Information
Sponge is an American rock band that was founded in 1992 in Detroit, Michigan. The current lineup of the band includes Vinnie Dombroski (vocals), Kyle Neely (guitar), Andy Patalan (guitar and backing vocals), Tim Patalan (bass), and Billy Adams (drums). The band was formed by Joey Mazzola, Jimmy Paluzzi, Tim Cross, Mike Cross, and Vinnie Dombroski. The group has signed record deals with different labels to date, such as Work Group, Columbia, Beyond, Idol, Bellum, Three One Three, and The End. The band released its debut album entitled “Rotting Pinata” on August 2, 1994, on Columbia Records, which was certified Gold by the RIAA.
Sponge opened for Kiss at Tiger Stadium, in Detroit, along with Alice in Chains on June 28, 1996. The band released its second album entitled “Wax Ecstatic” shortly after. The single from the album “Wax Ecstatic (To Sell Angelina)” was a significant hit and received considerable airplay on MTV and radio. The second single entitled “Have You Seen Mary” also received plenty of airplay. This single was also included in the Chasing Amy (1997). Sponge has also performed on the Lollapalooza festival tour.
Sponge has released a few more notable studio albums since they have been playing, which includes New Pop Sunday (April 13, 1999), For All the Drugs in the World (September 2, 2003), The Man (October 4, 2005), Galore Galore (December 4, 2007), Stop the Bleeding (May 29, 2013), and The Beer Sessions (October 8, 2016). The band also released many compilations and live albums throughout its career.
