Sophia Rankin Information
A skilled multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter, Sophia Rankin has many musical styles in her repertoire, including folk, pop, rock, and Americana. While she was a student at the University of Arizona's Fred Fox School of Music, she published her first two solo CDs, which garnered favorable reviews from the media and promoters. She won first prize at the 2017 Tucson Desert Song Festival and the 2018 Stefan George Songwriting Competition. She now fronts Sophia Rankin & The Sound, a group that includes Connor Rankin on drums, Eli Leki-Albano on bass, and Noah Weig-Pickering on guitar (lead guitar).
Too Close to the Riptide, her most recent album, was released in August. Too Close to the Riptide supports Rankin's wanderlust for the arts while being true to her roots as a songwriter by encouraging songs to delve further into classic aspects of rock, pop, and folk music. Her transition from a solo performer to a band leader encourages her to experiment with new sounds while staying true to her folk background.
