Sonny Emory Information
Sonny Emory (December 23, 1962) is an American percussionist, drummer, singer, and songwriter. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia. Frederick Douglass High School was where he studied. He earned a bachelor's degree in jazz and classical performance from Georgia State University. Emory started working as a professional percussionist after graduating.
Emory first contributed drums on the 1987 albums Roles by keyboardist Joe Sample and Arkansas by guitarist Bruce Hampton. In 1987, Emory also joined the Earth, Wind & Fire group. Later, he appeared on the 1988 album The Traveler by saxophonist Brandon Field. Later, Emory appeared with David Sanborn and Eric Clapton on the Lethal Weapon 2 soundtrack, released in 1989. Emory contributed drums to the albums Cosmic Thing by The B-52 from 1989, Prime of My Life by Phyllis Hyman from 1991, Can You Stop the Rain by Peabo Bryson from 1991, and Chic's Chic-ism from 1992.
Emory also appeared on the albums When Summer Comes by George Howard from 1993, Rhythm Stories by Bobby Lyle from 1994, and Common Ground by Everette Harp from 1994. Additionally, he contributed drums to Lee Ritenour's 1998 studio album. This Is Love and the Urban Knights' 1997 album Urban Knights II. From 2002 through 2018, Sonny was a part of Bruce Hornsby's Noisemakers band.
