Naucalpan's Jess ngel "Kacho" Gama and Alan "Mongo" Gama, two brothers, established the band Son Rompe Pera in 2017. Many cities in the southern states of Mexico feature marimba bands that perform in public spaces like streets and plazas.
Their father, José Dolores "Batuco" Gama Melchor, only had access to one marimba, so the Gama brothers learned to make a living by performing alongside him at parties and on the streets. After "Batuco's" death, the group took a break from making music together, but they picked up where they left off in 2017 with the release of their debut album, Son Rompe Pera. This name pays homage to both the vivaciousness of the band's rhythm and Esperanza "Pera," Gama's mother.
After resuming their musical careers, they played a concert alongside Celso Pia and Sonido Gallo Negro in Mexico City's Carpa Astros flea market. This performance caught the attention of Chico Trujillo's agent, Timothy "Timo" Bisig. The marimba was incorporated into their project after they traveled to Chile at the invitation of Aldo Asenjo, "El Macha" of Chico Trujillo, and saw concerts by Macha's other projects, including Chico Trujillo, La Floripondio, and Bloque Depresivo.
