Shambhala Music Festival Information
The Shambhala Music Festival occurs annually in British Columbia, Canada, and features electronic music acts. Since its inception in 1998, Canada's Electronic Music Festival has become the largest and one of the country's longest-running electronic music festivals. Since it is convenient to hitchhike from the coast to Kamloops, BC, festival-goers frequently gather at a local Boston Pizza before the event. A local family owns it and accepts no money from big businesses. Volunteers and event staff spend the summer at the ranch working to set up and run the festival.
The Living Room, AMP (AMPhitheater - formerly the Rock Pit, The Fractal Forest, The Village, The Grove (formerly The Labyrinth), The Grove: Cedar Lounge, and The Pagoda are the seven venues available for performances. (previously Main Stage).
The festival celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2008, and a DVD chronicling its evolution was published that summer. In the words of the film's synopsis, it follows a year in the life of different characters. The International Breakspoll Awards named Shambhala the Best Large Event in 2011 and 2012. DJ Mag says it is the "Best Music Festival in North America" for 2019.
