SF Jazz Collective Information
Launched in 2004 by the West Coast non-profit jazz organization SFJAZZ—which presents the annual San Francisco Jazz Festival—the SFJAZZ Collective is an American jazz ensemble with nine performers/composers.
Every year, the SFJAZZ Collective unveils a new repertoire that features a unique blend of classic jazz pieces from the post-1960 era and eight original works commissioned by the ensemble, featuring one piece from each member.
The SFJAZZ Collective played music from 2007 to 2013 during their tenth-anniversary tour in 2013. Every spring, the SFJAZZ Collective gathers for a three-week residence in San Francisco.
During this time in rehearsal, the octet works on new repertoire for the upcoming season and engages with the Bay Area community via SFJAZZ's adult and youth education initiatives. SFJAZZ Records releases an annual limited-edition CD collection after each season.
