Screaming Females Information
Screaming Females is an American rock band. The current lineup consists of Mike "King Mike" Abbate (bass), Jarrett Dougherty (drums), and Marissa Paternoster (guitar and vocals). In high school, Paternoster and Abbate started a band called Surgery On TV, but after going through a few lineup changes, they settled on Dougherty as a third member and changed the band's name to Screaming Females. This band formed in the basement concert scene of New Brunswick, New Jersey. Those under 21 are welcome to attend performances hosted by local bands, students, and locals in their "basement show scene."
For Don Giovanni Records, the band released Power Move in 2009 and Castle Talk in 2010. Their fifth album, Ugly, was released in 2012 and recorded with acclaimed audio engineer Steve Albini. The A.V. Club, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, Pitchfork Media, Alternative Press, and CMJ gave the album high marks.
According to Spin, Marissa Paternoster is the 77th-best guitarist (2012). The self-produced E.P. Chalk Tape by Screaming Females was made available for digital download and streaming in 2013. The E.P. was made available in multiple formats, including digital download and limited edition cassette tape. The band laid out their song ideas on a chalkboard and recorded Chalk Tape in one take. As of September 2013, the band had toured with fellow label mates Waxahatchee and Tenement.
