Sam Holt put his name on the map with the formation of the Sam Holt Band, built around Holt's signature guitar style, which involves no pick and only the thumb. With their captivating blend of outlaw twang, southern power pop, and face-melting hard rock riff-age, Sam Holt Band creates a unique sound. Sam believes that "the music is out there," adding, "If I can get out of my way, a song can form more easily."
Holt grew up in the southern rock epicenter of Nashville, Tennessee. Sam first became aware of his appreciation for music with the works of The Charlie Daniels Band and Elvis Presley. When his mother brought home KISS Alive II, he realized that music would play a significant role in his development. Sam went to work for Soundcheck in Nashville after he earned a degree in recording engineering from Middle Tennessee State University. Holt began working as Michael Houser's guitar tech for the massively successful Athens, Georgia band Widespread Panic in 2000.
Houser remarked that Sam should be performing his compositions because of his talent. Houser lost his battle with pancreatic cancer in August of 2002. Sam maintained his role as Widespread Panic's tech and made numerous appearances on the guitar during the band's Summer 2006 tour. The true believers in Panic's fan base treasured these performances.
