Roni Size Information
Ryan Owen Granville Williams (October 29, 1969) is an English music producer and DJ. He was born in Bristol, England. Reggae was an early inspiration for him. At 16, he was kicked out of school and began frequenting parties hosted by Bristol soundsystem The Wild Bunch. Krust, his future musical collaborator, was a member of the Fresh 4 when their song "Wishing on a Star" hit number 10 on the UK Singles Chart in late 1989.
Tribal Gathering in April of 1997 marked the first live performance by Roni Size & Reprazent. Williams formed the band to play live versions of his recorded songs. Full Cycle's Williams (Roni Size), Krust, and Die ran the "banks of equipment," Dynamite MC Onallee, Si John, and Clive Deamer took the spotlight with their vocals, bass, and drums, respectively.
Singles "Brown Paper Bag," "Heroes," "Share the Fall," and "Watching Windows," all featuring vocals by Onallee, were released in support of the band's debut studio album, New Forms, on June 23, 1997. Williams returned to the studio to focus on his work for V, Full Cycle, and Dope Dragon after the album went five times platinum and received the Mercury Prize.
Williams' fusion of live drums and double bass with the pulsating jungle sounds has garnered much praise. The drum and bass of the band Roni Size & Reprazent is an equal blend of hip-hop, funk, soul, and house.
