Rodrigo y Gabriela is a Mexican acoustic guitar duo. The current lineup consists of Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero. At Mexico City's "House of Culture," where Rodrigo's brother was the director, Rodrigo and Gabriela first crossed paths when Gabriela was fifteen years old. Rodrigo visited Quintero at her drama class after his brother suggested it. In the Irish Albums Chart, the titular album Rodrigo y Gabriela debuted at number one, surpassing both Johnny Cash and Arctic Monkeys.
A January 2013 episode of Austin City Limits, a one-hour public broadcasting service music program, featured the pair performing live at Austin, Texas's Moody Theater. The fourth studio album by Rodrigo y Gabriela, 9 Dead Alive, came out in April 2014. ATO Records released Mettavolution, their fifth studio album, on April 26, 2019. It features a cover of "Echoes" by Pink Floyd.
'Best Contemporary Instrumental Album' was the title of Mettavolution's 2020 January Grammy Award presentation. The duo's 2021 charity tribute album, The Metallica Blacklist, featured a cover of "The Struggle Within" by Metallica. The sixth studio album by Rodrigo y Gabriela, titled In Between Thoughts...A New World was released on April 21, 2023.
