Rodrigo Amarante Information
Rodrigo Amarante de Castro Neves is a singer, arranger, composer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he is known for being part of Little Joy, Orquestra Imperial, and Los Hermanos. Amarante studied journalism at Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. During his studies at the university, he met Rodrigo Barba and Marcelo Camelo. He soon joined their band Los Hermanos. Although Amarante couldn’t contribute much to the band’s self-titled debut album, he showed his real talent on the band’s second album, Bloco do Eu Sozinho, in 2001.
Amarante released his debut solo album entitled, Cavalo in 2014. It was one of the first releases on the record label, Easy Sounds Recording Company. The album was a success, featuring one of NPR Music’s “50 Favorite Songs of 2014 So Far”. He went on tour in nearly 30 countries to promote the album. Amarante also wrote and vocalized one song, “Tuyp,” in the Spanish language in 2015. The song was featured as the opening theme for the original Netflix series Narcos.
Amarante has also sung in the video City Music of Kevin Morby. He also collaborated in 2017 with Marcel Camelo, a recording engineer, and producer, to instrument the album by Mallu Magalhaes entitled Vem. Amarante released another solo album in 2021 entitled Drama.
