Robert Glasper Information
Robert Andre Glasper (April 6, 1978) is an American pianist, record producer, musical arranger, and songwriter. He grew up in Houston, Texas, and his mother was an early musical influence. She used to sing blues and jazz professionally and take him to the performances instead of leaving him with babysitters. Glasper performed during church services at three notable churches, including Seventh-day Adventist, Catholic, and Baptist.
According to Glasper, he first developed his sound in church. Glasper was inspired to mix gospel and church harmonies along with jazz harmonies. His actual playing career began while he was studying at the New School in New York. He began touring as a sideman with some established greats. Glasper eventually released his first album, “Mood,” in 2002 with Fresh Sound New Talent featuring six original compositions.
Glasper signed a record deal with Blue Note Records in 2005 and released his first major-label album entitled “Canvas.” The next album was released in 2006 entitled “In my Element.” His other hit studio albums include Double Booked (2009), Black Radio (2012), Black Radio 2 (2013), Covered (2015), Everything’s Beautiful (2016), ArtScience (2016), and Dinner Party (2020). He also released a few EPs, such as Black Radio Recovered: The Remix EP (2012) and Porter Chops Glasper (February 25, 2014).
