Richard Lloyd Information
Richard Lloyd (October 25, 1951) is an American songwriter and singer. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Lloyd has loved music ever since he was a young child. He witnessed Beatlemania after watching the Fab Four on The Ed Sullivan Show and traced the British Invasion back to its roots in the blues and jazz.
Lloyd went to Stuyvesant High School, a New York City institution. When he was a teenager, he had drum lessons from William Kessler, who later became known as the ghostwriter for the great big band drummer Cozy Cole. Later on, he picked up the guitar. Lloyd released one album, Alchemy, for Elektra Records after Television's initial breakup in 1978. Through his solo endeavors, he has collaborated with notable musicians like Matthew Sweet, John Doe (of the band X), and Stephan Eicher on guitar and as a studio musician. In 1990, Lloyd covered Roky Erikson and the 13th Floor Elevators' "Fire Engine" for the tribute album Where The Pyramid Meets the Eye.
He was put in the mold by Cynthia Plaster Caster, a Chicago-area plaster caster, in 1994. He also often produces other bands and is known to instruct aspiring guitarists in his New York City studio. His work with the band Rocket from the Tombs, named Rocket Redux, was released on Smog Veil Records, and he was involved in all stages of production and recording.
