Rapsody Information
Marlanna Evans (January 21, 1983) is better known by her stage name, Rapsody. She is an American rapper and songwriter from Snow Hill, North Carolina. Her music is defined as hip hop, and she began her career during her time at North Carolina State University. She joined hip hop collective H2O and its spinoff group Kooley High. The band met producer 9th Wonder in 2004, where Rapsody personally impressed him. This made Rapsody record her debut on 9th Wonder's sophomore album, The Dream Merchant Vol. 2. The album was released on October 9, 2007.
Rapsody launched her solo career in 2008 when she signed with 9th Wonder's It's A Wonderful World Music Group. Return of the B-Girl was a mixtape that brought her significant attention. It was released on December 7, 2010, and was followed by her next mixtape Thank HER Now, which showcased her storytelling abilities. Some of the other notable music projects by Rapsody are For Everything, released on November 15, 2011; She Got Game (2013), The Black Mamba EP (2012), Beauty and the Beast EP (2014), and Crown EP (2016).
Rapsody released three studio albums entitled The Idea of Beautiful (2012), Laila's Wisdom (2017), and Eve (2019). Jay-Z, Mos Def, Lauryn Hill and MC Lyte are stated to be her biggest influences. Rapsody played for the "Home" team during the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game in 2019, which took place at the Bojangles' Coliseum in Charlotte, North Carolina.
A few of her notable guest appearances include "We Are Jamla," "As We Shine," "Okaaaaaay," and "I Will Always Be Down."
