The Primavera Sound Festival (sometimes shortened to "Primavera") is a music event that takes place between the last weekend in May and the first weekend in June each year at Parc del Frum in Barcelona, Spain. The first one was in 2001 at Poble Espanyol, and in 2005 it was relocated to the larger venue of Parc del Frum, located on the waterfront. Its location is in the heart of the city, and with the diversity of the bands it features, Primavera Sound has become a crossroads for musicians and music fans of all ages. Primavera Sound is the largest music event in the Mediterranean and one of the largest in Europe.
Due to its overwhelming popularity, the festival moved to Porto in 2012. This one follows the main edition by a week and is held in the same location, the Parque da Cidade. The festival will expand in 2022, with new editions for Los Angeles, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires, and So Paulo. Since 2019, Benidorm has hosted Primavera Weekender, a significantly more intimate festival version.
With each iteration, the event has increased attendance and coverage in national and international print, broadcast, and online media. Eight thousand individuals showed up for the first event in 2001; by 2022, that number had grown to over half a million.
