Livingstone Matthews is an American singer and rapper. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and is professionally known by his stage name, Pink Siifu. While growing up, Matthews traveled back and forth between Birmingham, Alabama, and Cincinnati, Ohio, where he was exposed to a wide variety of musical styles by his parents and siblings. Matthews's saxophonist dad turned him on to old-school jazz, while his R&B-loving mom and hip-hop-loving big bro laid the foundation. He developed a lifelong appreciation for the music of Lil Wayne, a New Orleans-based rapper.
Throughout his youth, he learned to play trumpets and drums and marched with various bands. As a theater major at Wright State University in Fairborn, Ohio, a suburb of Dayton, Matthews trained to be an actor. He subsequently quit school to pursue a rapping career, initially in Cincinnati under the name "Liv Martez" until relocating to Los Angeles in 2013.
In 2018, Matthews released an " Ensley " album under Pink Siifu. The album was named after Ensley, Alabama, a suburb of Birmingham where Matthews' grandmother lived. His subsequent album, NEGRO, marked a departure towards a more punk rap and free jazz style. He has been compared to Mos Def, Lil Wayne, and Outkast, all of whom Pink Siifu cites as major influences on his own laid-back, passive style of singing.
