Pink Floyd Information
Pink Floyd is an English band formed in London. As one of the earliest psychedelic bands in Britain, they gained recognition for their complex live performances, philosophical lyrics, long compositions, and sonic experimentation. They rose to prominence as a progressive rock powerhouse; some even consider them the genre's all-time greats.
Roger Waters (bass guitar, vocals), Syd Barrett (guitar, lead vocals), Nick Mason (drums), and Richard Wright (keyboards, vocals) formed Pink Floyd in 1965. While Barrett was in charge, the band put out the 1967 debut album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, which included the songs "Arnold Layne" and "See Emily Play," which were hits. Barrett departed in April 1968 due to his worsening mental health; guitarist and singer David Gilmour joined in December 1967.
With over 250 million albums sold globally by 2013, Pink Floyd was undeniably one of the most successful music acts ever. Among the all-time best-selling albums are The Wall, Dark Side of the Moon, and Wish You Were Here, all of which were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. The US Billboard 200 chart saw four of Pink Floyd's albums peak, while the UK Albums Chart saw five.
"Hey, Hey, Rise Up!" was a protest song recorded in March 2022 by Pink Floyd, which consisted of Gilmour, Mason, Pratt, and keyboardist Nitin Sawhney in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February of that year. Pink Floyd's efforts to market its old repertoire have been hindered by internal strife, according to a March 2023 Variety story.
