Papooz Information
French indie pop duo Ulysse Cottin and Armand Penicaut (based in Paris) perform in English under the moniker Papooz. Since 2014, they have released two studio albums and an extended play. The music video for Papooz's 2015 summer hit "Ann Wants to Dance," directed and filmed by Soko in Greece, has racked up millions of views. Recorded at Cap Ferret and mixed by Ash Workman (Metronomy, François & The Atlas Mountains, Baxter Dury), Green Juice (2016) is their debut studio album. Some have even drawn comparisons between their sound and that of Phoenix. In his review for Earmilk, Evan Crandell says, "Rarely has self-reflection sounded so great." The review is a preview of Night Sketches' next album.
Night Sketches, the band's second album, was viewed as more ominous and energetic. Adrien Durand, the director of the Bon Voyage Organisation, worked on and produced the film (BVO). Saxophonist Julien Cavard, bassist Maxime Daoud (Forever Pavot, Ojard), and drummer Wendy Killman are only a few of the young French players who contributed to the record (Amadou & Mariam).
The album featured a fusion of classical and contemporary music mixed by Italian Andrea Suriani (Cosmo, Calcutta, Giorgio Poi). The album included the blockbuster "You and I," the ballad "About Felix" about the death of a friend, a ska song titled "Danger to Myself," a soft rock song titled "Let the Morning Come Again," and a saxophone-driven track titled "Let the Morning Come Again" ("Undecided").
