Nicole Atkins Information
Nicole Atkins (October 1, 1978) is an American songwriter and singer. She was born in Neptune, New Jersey, and grew up in Shark River Hills. She started to play the piano at the age of nine years. Atkins was self-taught on guitar when she was just 13. Soon, Atkins started playing in pick-up bands and performed small gigs at local coffee houses. That time, she was attending St. Rose High School. After graduating from high school, she moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where Atkins began studying illustration at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Atkins started befriending other musicians in Charlotte and writing her original songs. She also joined a supergroup in the city which was called Nitehawk. In 2002, Atkins won the Asbury Music Awards in three different categories, including Top Female Vocalist, Best Solo Act, and Song of the Year (Neptune City). In 2005, she was also the Foundation winner for Sammy Cahn Award (Neptune City). She was cast as a voice-over artist animated sci-fi comedy film “Mars” by director Geoff Marlett.
In 2014, Atkins recorded a cover entitled “Dancing in the Dark” of Bruce Springsteen. It was recorded for the compilation album entitled “Dead Man’s Town,” a tribute to “Born in the U.S.A” LP of Springsteen. She performed “A Little Crazy” when she appeared on Showtime’s Roadies.
Atkins has worked with several labels such as Single Lock Records, Oh Mercy/Thirty Tigers, Razon & Tie Records, Red Inc, and Columbia. Her Studio albums include Neptune City (2007), Mondo Amore (2011), Slow Phaser (2014), and Goodnight Rhonda Lee (2017).
