Nappy Roots Information
Nappy Roots is an alternative Southern rap quartet. The group members met each other in Bowling Green, Kentucky, in 1995. The current lineup of the group is Skinny DeVille, B. Stille, Ron Clutch, and Fish Scales. The band has worked with different record labels to date such as Atlantic, Nappy Roots Entertainment Group, Fontana Distribution, and AVJ Records. The group was formed when the members were studying at Western Kentucky University.
Nappy Roots released its debut studio album entitled “Country Fried Cess.” The album was released in 1998 and helped the group be signed with Atlantic Records. In 2002, the band released their first major-label hip-hop album named “Watermelon, Chicken & Gritz” that ended up becoming their best selling album. In 2003, Nappy Roots released their last album on Atlantic Records, entitled Wooden Leather. This album featured singles named “Roun’ the Globe,” which was featured on Madden 2004, and “Sick and Tired.”
On July 31, 2007, Nappy Roots released their first album as independent artists. The album was entitled “Innerstate Music” that features hit singles such as “Keep It Real” and “Good Day.” Nappy Roots have also released several hit singles so far, including Awnaw, Po’ Folks, Headz Up, Trouble of this World, Down ‘N Out, Congratulations, Another Sofa Bed, and Keep The Crypt.
The group’s notable studio albums include The Humdinger (August 5, 2008), The Pursuit of Nappyness (June 15, 2010), Nappy Dog Org (October 11, 2011), and Another 40 Akerz (April 14, 2017).
