My Son Pinocchio: Geppetto's Musical Tale by Disney is a popular musical that is based on Geppetto, a made-for-television movie. The movie was based on a book written by David Stern. It features the music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. My Son Pinocchio is much like the movie it is based on, a story of the children's book from 1883, The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. The musical initially premiered under a former name, Disney's Geppetto & Son, in 2006 at The Coterie Theatre, Kansas City, Missouri.
Stephen Schwartz, along with David Stern, completed the made-for-TV film Disney's Geppetto in 2000. It wasn't until many years later the idea for a child-appropriate stage musical adaptation came to fruition. Disney's My Son Pinocchio: Geppetto's Musical Tale was the result of that idea. The musical consists of two acts in total. Some of the musical numbers added to act 1 are "When You Wish Upon a Star," "Toys," "Empty Heart," "Rise and Shine," "Geppetto and Son," "When You Wish Upon a Star (Reprise)," and "I've Got No Strings."
A few of the musical numbers added in act 2 are "Satisfaction Guaranteed," "Bravo Stromboli (Reprise)," "Pleasure Island," "Pleasure Island (Reprise)," and "Geppetto and Son (Whale Reprise)."
