Mt. Joy is an American indie rock band. Mt. Joy started as a small idea between two old friends. Matt Quinn and Sam Cooper went to high school together in Philadelphia, then reconnected years later in Los Angeles. They wrote a few songs for fun and put them online. One of those songs, "Silver Lining," began gaining airtime quickly. People liked how it sounded real and easy to connect with, and that's when the group realized this could be something bigger.
The band started growing from there. They added more members, recorded more songs, and started playing live shows. Their first album came out in 2018 and helped them reach even more fans. Songs like "Jenny Jenkins" and "Sheep" showcased their blend of indie rock, folk, and soul. Their music feels chill but has meaning behind it. They don’t try too hard; they sound like a group of friends making honest music.
In 2018, Mt. Joy headlined their own tours around North America and Europe and appeared at the Innings Music Festival, Shaky Knees Music Festival, ACL Fest, and Voodoo Fest. The band's song "Rearrange Us," taken from the eponymous album, was released on October 16, 2019, with "Every Holiday" following on November 13, 2019. The new album was published on June 5, 2020, and the singles "Strangers" and "Let Loose" were released on February 18, 2020.
In 2025, Mt. Joy is back on the road and doing what they do best. In April and May, they played shows in cities such as Salt Lake City, Austin, and Seattle. They’re playing their older songs and trying out some new ones. Their shows feel warm and relaxed, just like their music. While not flashy, they're a solid band that continues to grow and stay true to their original vision, remaining faithful to their art.
