Mindi Abair Information
Mindi Abair (1969) is an American saxophonist, vocalist, author, and National Trustee for the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, which puts on the Grammy Awards show. She has led a successful solo career. Abair was born in St. Petersburg, Florida. While she was studying in high school, she studied as a drum major. She also won the first chair alto saxophone for the Florida All-State Jazz Band as a senior in high school. Abair’s first year of college was on full scholarship at the University of North Florida.
Abair moved to Los Angeles, California, after completing college in 1991. There she began looking for clubs, coffee shops, and hotels. She also played solo at 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica, California. Over the next decade of her career, the touring opportunities expanded. She toured as a singer, keyboardist, and saxophonist with Rick Braun, Teena Marie, Jonathan Butler, John Tesh, and Adam Sandler. Abair was also featured on saxophone in the Go West video in 1996 entitled “Tell Me.”
For the Millennium World Tour, Abair joined Backstreet Boys in 1999. She spent the next year and a half as the keyboardist, percussionist, and saxophonist for the band. She released her first solo album entitled “Always and Never the Same” when she was not touring in 1999. Other studio albums released by Mindi Abair include It Just Happens That Way (2003), Come As You Are (2005), Life Less Ordinary (2007), Stars (2008), Mindi Abair & The Boneshakers – The EastWest Sessions (2017), and Mindi Abair & The Boneshakers – No Good Deed (2019).
