All Roads Lead To The Gun and All Roads Lead To The Gun II, the band's two EPs, are a freeform, menacingly melodic study of the obsessive invention that defies dismissal.
Shelton originally became the frontman of the revered hardcore band Regional Justice Center, where he established an instantly recognizable musical persona that balanced venom with compassion. However, Shelton's restlessness prompted the unannounced launch of Militarie Gun on January 1, 2020, the same day that RJC's major tour preparations were put on hold. The release of the band's debut EP, My Life Is Over, served as a resounding declaration of Militarie Gun's arrival. It made it abundantly clear that this was no mere side project; rather, it represented a completely different side of Shelton's songwriting, which was noticeably more melodic but still fiery.
The music of Militarie Gun is both aggressive and approachable, drawing inspiration from various sources, including the unhinged guitar work of Born Against, the propulsive, present bass of Fugazi, and the kind of hooks that would make Robert Pollard pleased. Shelton takes a bold step toward expanding these relationships in his new book, All Roads Lead To The Gun.
