Pinto, who was reared at his parents' music store and came from a musical family, has played guitar since he was nine. He attended Elmhurst College for his undergraduate studies and DePaul University for his graduate work. Pinto serves on the Elmhurst College music faculty, teaching guitar, improvisation, arranging, and jazz history. He leads several ensembles (Lab Band, Gretsch Electric Guitar Ensemble, Electric Guitar Collective, and a jazz combo).
He is comfortable in a wide range of musical genres, and his approach to expression is intellectual, technical, and deeply felt. He is in demand as a session musician, performing live and in the studio with many musicians, recording sessions for commercial jingles, and even playing at churches like Willow Creek. His latest effort, Lush, with the Joe Clark Big Band, features great drummer Jeff Hamilton, who plays on that disc. The Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Jen Hartswick (Trey Anastasio Band), Joel Cummins and Kris Myers (Umphrey's McGee), Peter Himmelman, and Regis Philbin are just a few of the artists he has shared the stage with.
