Matt Dusk Information
Matt Dusk (November 19, 1978) is a Canadian jazz vocalist. He was born in Toronto, Ontario. He had longed to be a performer since he was a young child. He was admitted to St. Michael's Choir School at seven and attended there for eleven years. He played opera and classical music, but when he was seventeen, he shifted his musical orientation after hearing Tony Bennett and Sarah Vaughan. He triumphed in the Rising Star Competition at the Canadian National Exhibition in 1998.
In 1998, he enrolled at York University in Toronto to earn an economics degree to take over the family business. He decided to turn to music after a year. John Gittins, Bob Fenton, and Oscar Peterson's master courses were where he studied jazz voice and theory. He graduated in 2002 after receiving the Oscar Peterson Scholarship. Dusk self-released four albums before signing a record deal. He committed to a deal with Decca in March 2003. He was invited to the Golden Nugget Casino in Vegas in 2004 to perform as the on-site performer for the television show The Casino's filming.
Two Shots, his debut album, was released on June 5, 2004, and it received a gold certification in Canada. The album's smash single "Two Shots of Happy, One Shot of Sad" was written by U2's Bono and The Edge. The Casino's theme song was this one. On November 30, 2005, Dusk released Peace on Earth, a holiday EP, as a follow-up to his debut album.
