Berlin, New Jersey native and University of the Arts alum Matt Cappy plays trumpet, composes, and arranges for some of the biggest names in music. Over twenty years, Matt has played everywhere, from intimate clubs to massive arenas, on national television, and at major music festivals worldwide.
Matt has worked on recordings such as "Butterflies" by Michael Jackson and "Elevated" by Earth, Wind, and Fire. Many of the albums he appeared on won Grammys or Latin Grammys, including Fred Hammond's 2008 Best Contemporary Gospel Album winner, Free to Worship, and Kirk Franklin's 2009 winner, The Fight of My Life. In addition to Alejandro Sanz's Sirope, his work may be heard on John Legend and The Roots Wake Up! (Best R&B Album, 2011 Grammys) (Latin Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Pop Vocal Album 2015.)
Nearly a dozen albums Matt has worked on have gone on to be certified gold or platinum. Among these is Experience: Jill Scott 826+, a live album that has sold over 50,000 copies and is widely regarded as a cornerstone of the Neo Soul Movement. Matt has shared the stage with such artists as Jill Scott, Maxwell, The Roots, Kirk Franklin, Mary J. Blige and the Mavericks, Queen Latifah, and Patti LaBelle.
