Martha Davis Information
Martha Davis (January 19, 1951) is an American new wave and rock singer-songwriter from Berkeley, California, best known as the lead singer of a group called “The Motels.” At the age of 8 years, Davis had already begun taking ballet and guitar lessons. Her musical influences were not only her parents but also her babysitter, Thelton Henderson. Davis was invited to join The Warfield Foxes band in 1971 while she was living in Berkeley.
Davis has worked with a few record labels since she has started her musical career, including Capitol, Remarkable Records, and Clean Sheets. She left Berkeley in 1975 so that The Warfield Foxes could launch its musical career in Los Angeles. The Warfield Foxes gradually change into The Motels, and the lineup of the band changed in 1978 to include Davis (lead vocals and guitar), Jeff Jourard (guitarist), Marty Jourard (saxophone and keyboardist), Michael Goodroe (bass) and Brian Glascock (drums).
Davis has released several notable studio albums for The Motels including Motels (1979), Careful (1980), All Four One (1982), Little Robbers (1983), Shock (1985), This (2008), Apocalypso (2011), If Not Now Then When (2017), and The Last Few Beautiful Days (2018). She pursued her solo career and released a few notable albums as well, including Policy (1987), …So the Story Goes (2004), Beautiful Life (2008), and Red Frog Presents: 16 Songs For Parents And Children (2010).
