It was formed by the lead singer of the band Marilyn Manson and Daisy Berkowitz, the guitarist, in 1989 in the state of Florida. Marilyn Manson was originally named as Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids. They gathered a huge number of followers since the beginning with their unusual, arguable musical acts. The concept of the band centered around the contradictory notion of ‘good and evil’. This even extended to the band members' stage names. For example, Marilyn Manson derived his first name from Marilyn Monroe and second name from Charles Manson, the infamous serial killer. The names of each band member have been derived from putting together the names of serial killers and female sex symbols.
The band members used to dress in a very controversial manner while putting up controversial performances which shocked the audience. This made Marilyn Manson stand out even more from the rest. The band's albums such as ‘Antichrist Superstar’ and ‘Mechanical Animals’ were all platinum-selling. The band's line-up has been subjected to change many times; the only original member remaining is Marilyn himself. Marilyn Manson's work such as ‘The Dope Show’ was nominated for the best hard rock performance at the Grammys in 1999 and many others in the following years.
As of March 2019, Marilyn Manson has announced that he has almost finished recording his next studio album and prior to that Gil Sharone had announced his departure from the band in order to pursue other projects.
