Lynyrd Skynyrd is an American rock band. The group's current lineup comprises Rickey Medlocke, Johnny Van Zant, Michael Cartellone, Mark Matejka, Peter Keys, Keith Christopher, and Damon Johnson. Rolling Stone magazine put them at 95 for the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time" in 2004. A movie based on someone's life story was revealed on April 4, 2017. A year later, in June 2020, the film was released with the title Street Survivors: The True Story of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash.
Lynyrd Skynyrd began its farewell tour in January 2018 and was scheduled to end in 2022. Friday and Saturday nights were typical concert nights. Rossington announced in an interview on January 8, 2020, that the band would no longer be touring but still perform occasional live gigs.
At the time of Rossington's death in 2023, the band was recording their fifteenth studio album. After his passing, however, none of the original members remained. The band sold over 28 million records in the United States alone as of 2023. On March 5, 2023, the band's final original member, Rossington, passed away. All the founding members have passed away throughout the years. The band announced in April 2023 that they would keep touring even after Rossington had passed away.
