Luther Barnes (March 10, 1954) is a record producer, director, lyricist, composer, and lead vocalist for Luther Barnes and the Sunset Jubilaires and the Red Budd Gospel Choir. It wasn't until Barnes was nine that he understood he had a divine talent. Red Budd Holy Church's "On the Rise Youth Choir" came under his direction. "See What the Lord has Done" was the title of Barnes' 1987 first album.
People from Red Budd Holy Church and the Barnes family make up the choir, particularly Deborah Barnes, his cousin. The group's primary female vocalist, Deborah Barnes, possesses many skills. Deborah Barnes is Luther's cousin; he has been a music ministry mentor to her. The two are famous for their duet "Still Holding On." In the majority of his and his father's songs, Deborah Barnes is the female vocalist featured.
The 1992 Vision Award, the Stellar, and the GMWA Excellence Award were bestowed upon him for his work as lead vocalist of Luther Barnes and the Sunset Jubilaires, Red Budd Gospel Choir, and Luther Barnes Song Ministries. He also serves as president of the organization.
For his performance on the Barnes Family 1999 album A Live Reunion, he was nominated for The Truth Magazine Award, the GMWA 2003 Excellence Award, a Grammy Award Nomination in 2004, a 2005 Stellar Award, and a Gospel Heritage Award. The Annual North Carolina Fall Gospel Classic, which takes place in early October at Red Budd Holy Church in Rocky Mount, NC, has been presented by him since 1996.
