Los Rieleros Del Norte is a Norteño-Sax band from Ojinaga, Chihuahua, currently based in El Paso, Texas. The group is a three-time Grammy-nominated Mexican ensemble founded in 1980. It remains one of the oldest norteño bands still active. The band’s name is taken from work that some of the group members did on the railroads of Pecos, Texas.
The current leader of the band is Daniel Esquivel, while other members include Manuel Lujan playing electric bass, Daniel Esquivel Jr. playing the accordion, Alfredo Esquivel playing drums, Jose Luis Esquivel Bajo Sexto Eugenio “Pemo” González playing the saxophone. Leonel Garcia was the first album recorded by Los Rieleros Del Norte in 1982. Some of the notable albums which have become classics in regional Mexican music are Prieta Orgullosa, Aventura Pasada, and Estampida Norteña.
