Los Fabulosos Cadillacs are a popular band based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Their sound combines ska, Latin rock, and other genres. The group was founded in 1985 and dropped their debut album in 1986. The album was titled Bares y Fondas, or "Bars and Boarding Houses. Fourteen more releases followed. The band members are widely regarded as a landmark group in the history of Latin American ska.
Los Fabulosos Cadillacs' style incorporates ska, salsa, mambo, reggae, funk, and samba elements. The lyrics are generally hilarious and irreverent but often have political implications. While the lineup has evolved, founding members Gabriel Fernandez Capello (as Vicentico) on lead vocals and Flavio Cianciarulo (aka Sr. Flavio) on bass and backing vocals have remained constant.
Vicentico, the band's frontman, announced the band's return following a six-year break on April 7, 2008. MySpace claims this was a turning point for Vicentico. Their newest album, La Luz del Ritmo, was released on Nacional Records in the US on March 10, 2009. The band also embarked on a spring 2009 North American tour supporting the album.
Vicentico's MySpace also revealed that the band had been forced to make changes after the death of Gerardo "Toto" Rotblat. All of the members of the new lineup are seasoned veterans of LFC: Vicentico on lead vocals, Flavio Cianciarulo on bass and supporting vocals, Sergio Rotman on saxophone, Daniel Lozano on trumpet, Fernando Ricciardi on drums and percussion, and Mario Superman on keyboards.
