Lokella Information
Lokella's music unleashes a dynamic performance by incorporating layers of melancholy atmosphere, crooning melodies, and an often snappy rhythmic backbone. The West Michigan band crafts a bait and hook by experimenting with sounds and styles outside of rock, including blues clichés, jazz licks, a smattering of Latin flavor, and a healthy dose of drama.
The band was formed in 2016 with members Jennifer Bartlett, Evan Bartlett, Chris Bursley, and (former member) Nathan Jean. They made their debut with a four-song visual EP titled The Worst Of, a name that suggested the members were determined to push themselves creatively. The next year, after having shed a few more layers, the foursome recorded another set of five songs and released them as an extended play (EP) named Shedding Skin.
The band gained popularity by constantly promoting visual components that matched the songs, and they were met with a minor transformation when they recruited Josh Poel on drums before penning their most recent album, Censory Overload.
