Lit - Band Information
Lit is an American rock band formed in Orange County, California, in 1988. The current lineup of the group consists of A. Jay Popoff (lead vocals and drums), Jeremy Popoff (guitar and backing vocals), Kevin Baldes (bass and backing vocals), and Taylor Carroll (drums). The group is best known for its songs “Miserable” and “My Own Worst Enemy.” The ensemble was formed as Strate Lace in 1987 by Jeremy Popoff and Jerry Neel. They performed three live shows together, including a back-to-school party in a friend’s backyard, The Waters Club in San Pedro, and The Troubadour in Hollywood.
Lit went through several name changes throughout its career. The band was renamed Razzle from Strate Lace after adding more friends. Razzle was dissolved in 1993, and in 1994, it became Stain. Eventually, the band renamed itself from Stain to Lit, and since then, the group members have been performing with this name. The group released its debut studio album entitled “Tripping the Light Fantastic” on April 1, 1997. The album was released on the Malicious Vinyl record label.
Lit gained major popularity with its second album entitled A Place in the Sun, which they released in February 1999. The album yielded a hit single for the band named “My Own Worst Enemy” that peaked at 51 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also topped the Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks charts for almost 12 weeks. Other notable studio albums by Lit include Atomic (2001), Lit (2004), The View from the Bottom (2012), and These Are the Days (2017).
