Lilli Lewis Information
Lilli Lewis is a pianist, songwriter, and American folk and Americana vocalist who resides in New Orleans, Louisiana. "Folk Rock Diva" is an alias she goes by occasionally. She has also put out albums with the Lilli Lewis Project, a big band that features several well-known players from New Orleans. In 2019, jazz critics gave their CD We Belong good reviews. One critic in 2020 compared Lewis to opera singer Jessye Norman when discussing the CD My American Heart, which garnered media attention.
Louisiana Red Hot Records published Lewis's CD Americana in 2021. It was named one of NPR Music's Top 10 Albums of the Week. In a program on Black activists and musicians making their way, she was also interviewed for NPR Morning Edition.
The song "A Healing Inside" from Lewis's album Americana, which features the original Lady A, was removed from Spotify due to a complaint from the group formerly known as Lady Antebellum. However, the album was later reinstated to the service. As one of its Songs You Need to Know, Rolling Stone examined Lewis' "Copper John" and underlined the controversy.
