Les Nubians Information
Hélène and Célia Faussart, sisters from Paris, France, make up one-half of the musical group Les Nubians. The family of three sisters relocated to Chad in 1985. After seven years, they moved back to Bordeaux, France, where they began performing a cappella, organizing poetry slams in Bordeaux and Paris, and providing vocal support for musicians worldwide. In 1998, Princesses Nubiennes, the duo's debut album, was released by Virgin Records in France.
With the help of their Billboard R&B Single "Makeda" from the Grammy-nominated album Princesses Nubiennes, they have become a very successful French-language musical group in the United States. In 1999, Les Nubians won the Soul Train Lady of Soul Award for Best New Artist, Group, or Duo, and in 2000, they were nominated for two NAACP Image Awards.
The Visual Collaborative Polaris catalogue featured the sisters in May of 2020. Their conversation promoted the release of the song "LIBERATION" in a series called TwentyEightyFour that came out at the height of the pandemic. The same magazine featured both Rika Muranaka and Dakore Akande.
