Laidback Luke Information
Laidback Luke (October 22, 1976) is a Dutch music producer and DJ born in Manila, Philippines. Lucas van Scheppingen was raised in Hoofddorp, the Netherlands, together with his younger brother Asley. He was born in Manila to a Dutch father, Kees van Scheppingen, and a Filipina mother, Lucy Baruelo. He was always really passionate about music. In 1992, Luke started his career. His early mentor was Gaston Steenkist, according to him.
He has performed in Europe and North America, as well as at events in Japan and Ibiza. He has collaborated with musicians, including Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell, Junior Sanchez, Nebat Drums, and drummer David Guetta. In addition to a mix album, Windmill Skill (2003), he has released three studio albums: Psyched Up (1998), Electronic Satisfaction (2002), and Cream Ibiza Super You & Me (2011).
For the duo's remix album Daft Club, van Scheppingen remixed the Daft Punk song "Crescendolls" in 2003. Ibiza Closing Party, Luke's mix album, is available as a free covermount CD in the Mixmag issue from October 2008. Laidback Luke was a nominee for the 27th Dance Music Awards' Best European DJ prize in 2012. I'll Sleep When I'm Dead, a 2016 Grammy-nominated documentary on American DJ and producer Steve Aoki, featured him.
