La Sonora Dinamita Information
La Sonora Dinamita is a musical ensemble that originated from Cartagena, Colombia. It may also be known to some as La Sonora Dinamita by Lucho Argaín. The group plays cumbia, a famous South and Latin American music genre. La Sonora Dinamita was initially founded under the direction of bandleader Lucho Argaín in 1960. In 1963, the group disbanded but reunited under Julio Ernesto Estrada “Fruko” Rincón in 1975. The group’s current lineup consists of Charlie Alvarez, Tony Peregrino, Osman Ocoro, Johanna Betancourt, and Citlalli Moctezuma. There is a long list of former members who played in the ensemble.
La Sonora Dinamita released its first few successful recordings in 1981, including the classic “Mi Cucu.” The group is well-known for always featuring a strong female vocalist accompanied by ten-piece brass instrumentation. This includes Mélida Yará (La India Meliyará), Margarita Vargas(La Diosa de La Cumbia), Vilma Díaz (La Diva de La Cumbia), and a few other female vocalists.
