KOTA The Friend (October 16, 1992) is an American artist from Brooklyn, New York. He was exposed to Soul music, Jazz, R&B, and hip hop at a very young age. He first joined a music program that was organized in his school. KOTA excelled as a trumpet player in this music program. He was also the leader of the trumpet section in high school. At the same time, KOTA was teaching himself on piano and guitar to add more skills to his future music career.
KOTA picked up two-weekend jobs because he wanted to build a home studio where he could assemble all of his music. His musical influences include a few bands as well as some big-name artists such as Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, J Dilla, and The Beatles. To learn trumpet on an advanced level, KOTA also attended Five Towns College. Later on, he had developed his skills on bass, guitar, and keyboard as well. During his college time, he had started a little rap group called “Nappy Hair.”
KOTA is signed with Flight Boys Inc. There was also a time in his life when he went into a deep depression. It happened because he lacks money and could not pursue his musical career better, but he did not quit, and at the age of 19, he began cinematography to feed his needs and wants.
