Kishi Bashi Information
Kaoru Ishibashi (November 4, 1975), performs as Kishi Bashi, is an American singer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter from Seattle, Washington / Norfolk, Virginia. His music is defined as Indie pop, indie rock, psychedelic pop, electronic, and experimental type. Bashi graduated from Matthew Fontaine Maury High School in 1994. He later attended Cornell's School of Engineering and co-founded a band named Tamarisk in college. He also attended Berklee College of Music to study film scoring before becoming a renowned violinist.
Bashi is a founding member and singer of Jupiter One, who is the New York electronic rock outfit. He began to record and perform as a solo artist in 2011. He recorded as well as toured internationally as a violinist with many different artists, including Regina Spektor, Alexi Murdoch, opening for Sondre Lerche, and of Montreal. Kishi Bashi supported Montreal on their spring tour that took place in 2012.
151a was the debut album by Bashi that was released on April 10, 2012, via Indianapolis label Joyful Noise Recordings. It was followed by his second album entitled Lighght on May 13, 2014; Sonderlust on September 16, 2016; and Omoiyari on May 31, 2019. Bashi released a live album, "7" Box Set" (including covers of the Talking Heads, ELO, and Beirut). Room for Dream EP (2011), Philosophize! Chemicalize! EP (2013), and Room for Dream EP (2017) are three extended plays. Sony used Kishi Bashi's song named "It All Began With A Burst" for a commercial when they introduced their Xperia Tablet S.
Kishi Bashi also released a line of coffee called Royal Daark Blend in 2014, through Jittery Joe's.
