Kev Choice is an American pianist, producer, bandleader, emcee, and music historian. The Oakland-based artist is reinventing what it means to be a musician in this day and age, blessed with immense talent and the expertise and dedication to his craft to pull it out. There aren't many classically educated pianists with Master's degrees in jazz who can rock microphones with scorching 16s.
Choice recalls being "heavily into vinyl" as a child, which aided in developing his musical ear. He began playing the piano at 11 and quickly became known as a prodigy. Choice was a member of the UC Berkeley Young Musicians Program and Skyline High School in Oakland's classical and jazz ensembles as a teenager. After getting scholarship offers on a campus tour, he pursued his studies at Xavier University of Louisiana (New Orleans). He finished with a (BM) in Music (Piano Performance). He was then awarded a fellowship for attending Southern Illinois University (Carbondale), where he earned a master's degree in music (Piano Performance).
Choice has written hip-hop to classical melodies and recorded a new song every day for an internet series called The Daily Dosage and other solo projects. This includes The Bailout and The Inauguration mixtapes, showcasing his poetic and musical abilities.
