Ken Ford Information
Ken Ford (November 14, 1968) is an American jazz violinist born in St. Louis, Missouri. Although he has collaborated with artists in the R&B, neo soul, and modern jazz scenes, he started as a classical violinist. While a student in Atlanta, he joined the DeKalb Youth Pops Orchestra and received classical violin instruction from musicians who had played in the Atlanta Symphony. Over time, Ford became the Concert Master of the African American Philharmonic Orchestra (AAPO).
Among Ford's musical influences are violinists Noel Pointer and Jean-Luc Ponty, as well as Stevie Wonder. He briefly followed in his father's footsteps as a DJ. He earned a degree in computer information systems after his mom insisted that he do so that he might have a fallback job option. His star rose as he became a mainstay of Atlanta's music scene. In the mid-1990s, he became jobless and devoted himself fully to music.
School programs that include music are something that Ford believes in. While on the road, he promotes youth music enjoyment by hosting benefit concerts and meeting with local youth. To combat stereotypes of the violin as a stuffy instrument befitting solely classical music and to promote arts and music education for youngsters, he established the Ken Ford Foundation in July 2010. In September 2011, he was supposed to perform in Macon, Georgia, as part of An Evening of Respect, a memorial to Otis Redding.
