Kelly Willis (October 2, 1968) is an American country music songwriter and singer. He is from Annandale, Virginia. The music style of Willis is described as Americana, country, Honky Tonk, and Alt. Country, along with new traditionalists. Willis’s mother had a strong interest in music, and she used to act and sing n amateur musicals. Willis began singing when she was only nine when her parents got divorced. She used music to comfort herself. Willis spent her middle school years in North Carolina, whereas school years in Annandale, Virginia.
Willis began her music career by entering a pay recording booth, one day during a high school visit to the beach. She sang her version of Elvis Presley's "Teddy Bear” at the booth. The demo for her song impressed her then-boyfriend named Mas Palermo, who was a drummer. He made Willi joined his rockabilly band at the age of 16. Soon after Willis's high school graduation, the band broke up. Willis and Palermo got married in 1989 and formed a new band by the name Radio Ranch.
Willis impressed many Texas singer-songwriters, including Nanci Griffith and Lyle Lovett, and got introduced to MCA producer Tony Brown. She recorded her first album on the label MCA in 1990 by the name Well Travelled Love. Right after this release, she got interviewed by many national magazines such as Vogue and Mademoiselle. She also provided the song "Little Honey,” for the 1991 Ridley Scott-produced movie Thelma and Louise.
