Joyful Noise Information
Joyful Noise shifted its attention to limited edition specialty releases in 2010, mostly from analog media bundled with digital music downloads. The Washington Post, Pitchfork Media, Under The Radar, and others have all written on the label's pioneering role in the revival of cassette tapes and flexi discs and its fame for releasing albums on vinyl records.
Cassette singles by Akron/Family, Dinosaur Jr., Deerhoof, of Montreal, Here We Go Magic, and others have been issued by Joyful Noise, as have Cassette Box Sets featuring multiple albums by Dinosaur Jr., of Montreal, and Joan of Arc.
Kishi Bashi's "151a" (which debuted at #6 on the "Heatseekers" chart) was Joyful Noise's first album to chart on Billboard in 2012. Artists including Sebadoh, Dumb Numbers, David Yow, Son Lux, Swamp Dogg, Tropical Fuck Storm, Deerhoof, and Why? have all released new albums on Joyful Noise since then.
Joyful Noise's monthly Flexi-Disc singles series ran from 2012 to 2016. During that time, the label pursued its mission of fostering a musical community by releasing cult artists on antiquated audio-reproduction formats.
