Jon Anderson Information
John Roy Anderson (October 25, 1944) is an English songwriter and singer. He is professionally known as Jon Anderson. Anderson was born in Accrington, which is a town in Lancashire. He attended St. John’s School. While he was studying at the school, Anderson decided to start a musical career. He began playing the washboard in Little John’s Skiffle Group. The group performed the songs by Lonnie Donegan. Anderson dropped the letter “h” from his name John in 1970.
Anderson’s desire to become a singer took a major place in his heart when his brother Tony started singing and joined the local group “the Warriors” (also known as Electric Warriors). Anderson received a chance to replace one of the backing vocalists of the group who had left. From there, he started finding music enjoyable, and his desire for music increased. The group used to perform cover songs by different artists such as The Beatles, performing all across Lancashire. Anderson has also appeared as a guest singer on the album “Lizard” by King Crimson.
In 1979, Anderson recorded his first album, where he collaborated with Vangelis. The album was entitled “Short Stories,” which was released in 1980. Anderson signed a record deal with Virgin Records after the release of Short Stories. He went on a solo tour in 2009 after recovering from a severe asthma attack on May 13, 2008. His solo albums include Olias of Sunhillow (1976), Song of Seven (1980), Animation (1982), 3 Ships (1985), In the City of Angels (1988), Deseo (1994), Change We Must (1994), Angles Embrace (1995), Toltec (1996), and several others.
