John Pizzarelli Information
John Paul Pizzarelli Jr. (April 6, 1960) is an American jazz vocalist and guitarist. He is from Paterson, New Jersey. The music style of John Pizzarelli is often described as jazz and swing. He started playing the guitar when he was only six years old, whereas he played the trumpet during his college period. Pizzarelli went to Don Bosco Preparatory High School, which was an all-boys Catholic school. He also performed with Benny Goodman, Les Paul, Zoot Sims, Clark Terry, and Slam Stewart as a teenager. Later, he attended the University of Tampa and William Paterson University.
During the 1980s, Pizzarelli established himself as a jazz guitarist and a vocalist. The debut solo album by him was released in 1983 named I'm Hip (Please Don't Tell My Father). During the 1990s, he played in a trio alongside Ray Kennedy and Martin Pizzarelli (his young brother). He also got starred in a Broadway show named Dream, which was devoted to the music of Johnny Mercer. Nat King Cole is said to be his inspiration for the music career. He honored him via his albums; Dear Mr. Cole (BMG, 1994) and P.S. Mr. Cole (RCA, 1999).
Pizzarelli has hosted a national radio show, which was famous as Radio Deluxe with John Pizzarelli along with his wife, actress, and singer Jessica Molaskey. Some of the other musicians with whom he has worked are George Shearing, Rosemary Clooney, Johnny Frigo, and a few more.
His famous discographies as a leader are; Hit That Jive, Jack!, My Blue Heaven, Let's Share Christmas, Meets the Beatles, With a Song in My Heart, Rockin' in Rhythm: A Tribute to Duke Ellington and the list goes on.
