Joel Plaskett Information
William Joel MacDonald Paskett (April 18, 1975) is a Canadian songwriter and rock musician. He is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In the 1990s, Plaskett was also a member of Halifax, an alternative rock band Thrush Hermit. He performs in numerous genres such as pop, country, hard rock, blues, and folk. His songwriting contains allusions to his home city Halifax. Plaskett is a member of the band called The Emergency, with whom he has toured throughout Europe and North America with Kathleen Edwards, his father Bill Plaskett, Sloan, and The Tragically Hip.
During the end of his days in Thrush Hermit, Plaskett wrote a few songs in his first release, In Need of Medical Attention. The release was well-received by critics, but after his 2001’s Down at the Khyber that brought even more success for Plaskett, he enjoyed much more widespread acclaim. The album featured Plaskett’s new backing band, The Emergency. The lineup consisted of Tim Brennan (bass player), Dave Marsh (drummer), and Paskett. The album also earned a Juno Award nomination as a best new artist for Plaskett.
Plaskett released his first DVD through Emergency in March 2006 entitled, Make a Little Noise. The DVD also included an EP of three songs. “Nowhere with You,” the album’s single, received the most mainstream radio airplay for Plaskett of any of his singles to date. The single was also featured in a Zellers television commercial in recent years. He has embarked on several projects after this. He made his TV debut as a coach on the CBC Television documentary series named Rock Camp in 2004.
